MOT Extension - CJ Auto

MOT Extension Scheme Ends August 1st 2020 – Don’t Get Caught Out!

If your MOT expires after August 1st, 2020 and you were looking to make use of the Government’s announcement of the MOT extension scheme, then your plans may be about to change. Recently, the Government have stated that this scheme is going to be cut short, meaning that after August 1st all prior conventional testing rules will apply to cars.

This is down to the fact that most garages are back open once more (including us!), as well as a fear that many cars may not be fit for the roads after lockdown has began to ease.

What do I need to know?

The original extension stated that if your car’s MOT were to expire between the period of 30th March 2020 – 29th March 2021, you would have an extra 6 month period in which to get it tested. However, as lockdown has been eased, the latter date of this period has been curtailed, and now only lasts until 31st July 2020. If your car’s MOT expires on 1st August or later you will have to get your car tested as normal.
